What is Signal? Analog And Digital Signal Difference?

Analog and digital signals are the most important part of modern technology.

A signal is an electrical/electromagnetic wave that is used to carry the data from one system to another and one network to another. Analog and Digital are two types of signals which get used in carrying the information in appliances.

Difference Between Analog Signal And Digital Signal:

1. Analog Signal:

An Analog signal is a continuous time-varying basically bound to a range that has an infinite number of values in that continuous range. It’s a medium to convey the information in the form of a signal like electricity moving within a wire. In electrical signal frequency, the voltage of the signal varies to represent the information. This kind of signal works with physical values and natural phenomena such as earthquake, frequency, light, sound, temperature volcano, speed of the wind.

2. Digital Signal:

A digital signal is a signal that is used to represent data as a sequence of discrete values at any point in time. It can only take on one value from a finite set of a possible number of values at a given time. It represents a real number within a constant range of values.

Analog Signal Vs Digital Signal:

Analog Signal

Digital Signal

It represents physical measurements and is a continuous signal.

It is generated by using digital modulation and is time separated.
Analog signal is denoted by a sine wave. Digital signal is denoted by a square wave.
It helps us to represent information by using a continuous range of values.

It represents the information by using 0 and 1.

It has low bandwidth.

It has a high bandwidth.

Its hardware does not offer a flexible implementation.

Its hardware offers flexible implementation.

It is suitable for audio and video transmission.

It is suitable for computing and digital electronics.

It does not have any fixed range.

It has a finite number range which is 0 and 1.

It gives considerable observational errors because it has S scale that is cramped at the lower end.

It does not cause any kind of observational error.

Characteristics of Analog Signal and Digital Signal:

Analog Signal

Digital Signal

These are time-varying signals.

These are continuous signals.

In this min and max values can be either positive or negative.

In this values can be denoted as 0 and 1.

It can be periodic or non-periodic.

It is versatile and gets used widely.
Due to its shape(Curve, Line) it may not be useful for all.

Its accuracy is far better in comparison with the Analog signal.

“This article might have helped you to clear the difference between Analog and Digital Signal, their characteristics and their usage. The information mentioned in this article is based upon the various research studies and Reporter Aunty does not claim this.”
