What Is The Difference Between Living And Non-Living Things?
Living and non-living things are part of the earth. Do you know the difference?
In our daily life, we find many things which can be living and non-living things. What Are Living Things?
Living things are known as those things whose structures are known as cells which exhibit the locomotion or movement. They have metabolism and includes the catabolic and anabolic reactions. For the survival of living things, they need Oxygen, Food, Water, Temperature, and Light.
Characteristics Of Living Things:
- Living things have the sense to feel the changes in their ambiance. They are touch-sensitive.
- Living things can produce their kind by the process of reproduction.
- They acquire and fulfill their nutritional requirements to survive through the process of nutrition and digestion, which involves engulfing and digesting the food.
- The food which gets digested by the body gets eliminated by the process of excretion.
- The growth of living things contains different stages of development.
What Are Non-Living Things?
The non-living things are known as those things which do not touch-sensitive means they are not alive. They do not need oxygen and food to survive. They do not reproduce their own. Non-living things do not have any lifespan they only get destroyed by the external forces. Examples:- Stones, Car, Bed, clothes, etc.
Characteristics Of Non-Living Things:
- The major factor of the non-living things is immortality because they are not alive.
- They do not have any life because there is no protoplasm and no cells which form the basis for life to exist.
- There are no metabolic activities in non-living things because of a lack of protoplasm.
- They do not have any particular shape or size because they take the shape of the container, object, or substance in which they are placed and it happens because they are due to an external influence. For example: If we contain the water in a round container then gets the round shape and if we put it into a square container then it becomes square in shape. Which means they do not have any definite shape or size.
- They grow by accretion. It occurs through adding materials externally.

| They can move from one place to another. | Non-living things can not move by themselves. |
| They have a lifespan and they are not immortal. | Non-living things are immortal. |
| They have constant metabolic reactions. | They do not have a metabolic reaction. |
| For the cell function, they make a stable environment. | They do not need to maintain any stable internal environment. |
| They respire to live and during this process exchange of gases takes place. | They do not need to respire. |
